In a papal bull by Pope Lucius III from 1185, the church of San Giovanni Battista in Locara is mentioned for the first time. It is dependent on the Abbey of San Pietro in Villanova, as confirmed by Emperor Henry VI of Swabia in 1193.
The facade is gabled, facing west, and shows a mixture of styles: Gothic in the spires and rose window, and Lombard style of the early Venetian Renaissance in the arches of the lower part and in the rounded windows on the side walls. The wooden portal is topped by a lunette, while in the two niches are placed the statues of the protectors of Locara, San Giovanni Battista and San Valentino.
The interior has a single nave. There is a statue of San Benedetto, in memory of the Benedictines of Villanova, while the altar dedicated to San Giovanni Battista features a canvas of the saint's "Nativity," a work from the Venetian school of Titian.
On the ceiling, there is a painting representing the Martyrdom of San Giovanni Battista, created by the painters from Arcole, Antonella Burato and Anna Elisa Sartori in 2013, which replaces a fresco of the same subject by Felice Lovato, lost in 1968 due to roof leaks.
