It was built by the Bishops in the late 1200s on the ruins of the castle (using material from the same), and it was dedicated to the patron saint against livestock diseases.
The church was remodeled externally in 1537, as evidenced by the date inscribed on the stone lintel of the side door.
The small church consists of a Baroque altar with statues and spiral columns made of faux marble.
At that time, it also housed the apse which contained a wooden crucifix from the 1500s, the so-called "Cristo Moro," which is still in the parish church of Santa Maria Maggiore today.
