This is a building constructed in Romanesque styles shortly after the year 1100, on the remains of a castrum. Until the end of the 12th century, it was part of the lands of the monastery of San Giorgio in Braida, later coming under the influence of the parish of Santa Maria di Tregnago. It was during the course of the 1300s that the small church experienced its period of greatest wealth: indeed, the frescoes uncovered during the restoration of 2008 date back to this era.
The building has a simple gabled facade, oriented to the west. On the side wall, which faces south, Saint Christopher is depicted, a sign of blessing for travelers along the Via Cara.
The cycle of frescoes inside depicts saints in two registers. The oldest part, in the lower register, is nearest to the side entrance and shows a martyr holding the red palm symbolizing martyrdom, Saint Catherine of Alexandria, and Saint Margaret of Antioch. Beside them are represented Saint Bartholomew the Apostle, Saint Denis (as stated by the painter in the fresco), depicted on horseback as if he were Saint Martin of Tours, patron of Tregnago, or Saint George.
In the last panel, Saint Simon and Saint Jude Thaddeus, Saint Thomas with his finger in the hand of God, Saint Benedict, and Saint Denis are depicted. This last fresco is dated 1357, as indicated by the inscription which also documents the author and part of the name of the commissioner: a resident of Marcemigo who wanted to dedicate this work to his deceased parents, represented kneeling at the feet of the saints. In the upper register, we find Saint Anthony the Abbot, Saint Bartholomew the Apostle, Saint Denis, and a Madonna in throne with the Child.
The church is completed by a chapel dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel, and a canvas from the 1500s depicting a lamentation over the dead Christ. The 18th-century altar features an oil on canvas with the Assumption of Mary, Saint Denis, and Saint Jude Thaddeus.
