The first document that mentions the Church of Santa Maria is a deed from 1222.
The façade is divided into two orders: on the lower level, there is a large rectangular entrance door flanked by pilasters and niches that host the statues of Sant'Abbondio and San Bonifacio. On the upper level, six Ionic pilasters support the architrave, and at the very top, three statues representing Saint Peter, Saint John the Baptist, and the Blessed Virgin Mary are placed.
Inside, the church has a Latin cross layout with three chapels on each side: two with a rectangular plan and one apse chapel in the transept. Throughout the perimeter of the church, columns and half-columns alternate with pilasters.
In the apse, there is a Pulpit of Sant'Abbondio, created by the painter from Soave, Adolfo Mattielli (20th century), with the lower part depicting the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, the Church of Sant'Abbondio alla Motta, and a fanciful reconstruction of the Castle of San Bonifacio. Above Mattielli's canvas, there is a roundel in which a Madonna with Child is sculpted, dating back to the first half of the 15th century.
In the apse basin, there is the Expulsion of the Angels, frescoed between 1802 and 1803 by the Veronese painter Pio Piatti.
