The city of Illasi rises in the historic area of Lessinia, in its namesake valley. It is characterized by a history linked to its castle and a ghost that resides there: a sad tale tied to love and betrayal.
It is from the Sanctuary of the Crucifix in San Felice that the walk begins. An hermitage of meditation and tranquility, an example of Romanesque style, this sacred place is one of the most expressive artistically: it has frescoes depicting the life of Jesus, the Madonna, and Saints.
The clattering of the stones underfoot accompanies the explorer through a succession of vineyards and olive groves, along with a splendid view of the Val Tramigna, mother of the suggestive local wines, which frames this beautiful panorama: the soul feeds on it.
And, walking carefreely, one arrives at an intersection where the Chapel of Saint Anna is located, a destination for a procession every year in July. After a sharp turn, one begins to ascend towards Mount Garzon, whose forests exhale the relaxing fragrance of pine and resin that can already be felt.
The atmosphere changes, the vineyards give way to a dense forest that welcomes the walker. Here it will be possible to encounter a high animal biodiversity, from protected species to others of hunting interest in certain periods of the year. Before exiting, a stop to pay homage to the brave fighters at the Altar of the Alpini.
One returns by following the panoramic route along Val Tramigna until reaching the Scaligero Castle. This fortress, built between the 10th and 14th centuries as defense for the village, dominates the valley and is surrounded by villas and cellars. It consists of two buildings: the keep, residence of the lord, and the castrum, place for the militias.
