Built in the 13th-14th century, it is located between Via Adolfo Mattielli and Corte Pittora.
The name of the palace reminds us of the origin of the historic noble family of Sambonifacio. The courtyard at the entrance of the building is called Corte Pittora, named after the noble Pittore family of Verona, which likely had the building constructed before it passed into the ownership of the Counts Sambonifacio.
The building preserves its original architectural appearance intact. Tradition recalls the presence of the Knights Templar of the Ordo Templi, as evidenced by two inscriptions on the sides of the palace: “non nobis Domine, sed nomini tuo da gloriam” which means “Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory.”
Besides the beauty and sobriety of the facade, the building is particularly important for its spacious vaulted underground cellars, entirely made of fired brick joined with lime mortar, and restored in the 1990s. Here, it is still visible today the entrance of a tunnel, which according to legend is the access to a passage that leads directly to the castle.
It currently houses the winery Cantina del Castello.
