The church of Saint Anthony the Abbot is situated on a basalt spur called "la Frata," between the towns of Vestenanova and Vestenavecchia.
It is the first church of the high Val d'Alpone, built in Romanesque style in the 12th century.
Between the 14th and 16th centuries, it was enriched with fresco decorations, some of which are attributed to Morone.
Having become a lazaretto and plastered with quicklime in 1630, during its long history it also served as a shelter for animals and a refuge for partisans during wartime. A careful restoration carried out between 1980 and 1987 brought it back to its ancient splendor.
The façade is simple, with a gabled structure characteristic of country Romanesque architecture. In the center is an arched portal with contours in local limestone and simple molded capitals, crowned by a small circular oculus. A protruding cornice concludes the front, marking the line of the roof's slopes.
The church has a rectangular plan layout with a pronounced longitudinal development. The rectangular presbytery has a slightly sloped axis, narrower than the nave and articulated on three levels, with a flat-ended apse wall. On the right side of the presbytery is the small sacristy. The main entrance opens centrally on the façade. There is also a side entrance on the southern side of the nave. The bell tower rises attached to the left side of the presbytery, adjacent to the sacristy building.
