Starting from the parking lot, take via S. Giovanni Battista to the Museum of Fossils, continue towards the parish church from where the trail leading to the summit of Monte Purga begins. The name derives from purk, burgh = castle or fortified place, a volcanic pyramidal hill that was already frequented in prehistoric times.
From the summit of the mountain, it is possible to enjoy, on particularly clear days, a panoramic view that allows for a 360° vista of the underlying landscape from the Val d'Alpone to the Valle Chiampo, extending to the small and large Dolomites.
The trail continues through a beautiful and dense forest enriched by a green carpet of ferns and leads to the columnar basalts, rocks formed from remnants of ancient volcanic chimneys filled with lava.
